FAQ
- Why "netday"?
-
That's the name we gave to our biannual frag fair back in 1998. At the very begining, it was meant to last just 1 day, but now it lasts 5 days.
- Do you run your own CSS server?
-
Yes. More detail here.
- Smaller screen resolution ?
-
Well...Yes... You're right. With a 1024 screen width you can have some visual glitches. We are tracking them down, but some are hard to eradicate.
Until we've tracked them all, let's say the site is "1280 screen width" optimized (In fact, it is).
- Are you a clan?
-
So to speak, no. We do not take part in tournament, we don't train, etc... But we're a group of friends who play together on a regular basis.
- Why is the map "xyz" not showing up on your website? It's a must have!
-
It's easy! Either we don't find it good enough to list it here, or we haven't tested it yet! You can send us links to maps you would like us to review, be it your own map or not. Just follow this link.
- Wait a minute, there is no rating on your website, how comes?
-
What a clear-eyed we've got here! Indeed, there is no rating. The maps listed here stand out from the crowd thanks to the pleasure they give playing them, not only because they are fun or beautiful or playable. It's a whole that cannot be splitted! We admit an ugly map will have no chance of being listed here even if it's damn funny with a tremendous gameplay. As well as a beautiful map with a shitty gameplay will be discarded. Moreover, giving a rating to a map also means classifying it among all the other map, sorting them out, which ones are the best of the best. We think that they all deserve a try, and not one more than others.
- What is this "custom minimap" thing?
-
Back in august 2006, the way the radar worked in Counter-Strike : Source was reviewed from scratch by Valve. Now it displays a bird's eye view of the map. Many old / new maps do not have this built in minimap. Hence, the new radar messes up a bit and becomes unusable. The custom minimap, once built in, adds this bird's eye view and the radar is back, fully operational!
Here is a before / after comparison:

- And this is working for both client and server?
-
This add-on must be done on the client side. Install it on a server won't help et won't make it available for the client. No .RES files is given because it could potentially conflict with one of the mapper .RES files. We don't modify any of the original files. Admins of servers are free to create their own .RES files if they want.
- Do you overwrite any file ?
-
No, we do not. Five files are added within two directories: three parameter files and two texture files - one is the overview and the other is the radar greeny thing.
- Does it work, even if the server does not host the file and is VAC secured ?
-
Of course.
- What about the SV_PURE 1 server ?
-
With the new pure setting, things have changed.
If the Server is not pure, everything will run fine.
If the server is pure, it will work if either:
- the server configuration allows custom content into the .../materials/overview and .../resource/overview client directories. To achieve this, two lines must be added to the file pure_server_whitelist.txt:materials\overviews\. allow_from_disk resource\overviews\. allow_from_disk- the server configuration allows custom content into the .../materials/overview and .../resource/overview client directories and the server performs a CRC check. To achieve this, two lines must be added to the file pure_server_whitelist.txt:
materials\overviews\. allow_from_disk+check_crc resource\overviews\. allow_from_disk+check_crcAnd the radar files must also be installed on the Server.
!!! Beware !!!
With these radar files added, the Pure Server which are not configured accordingly will refuse the use of these custom files so you will have a nice purple and black check board instead of the green-thing.
In this case, you can either:
- Remove the incriminated files,
- Ask the server Admin to modify his pure_server_whitelist.txt file,
- Ask the server Admin modify his pure_server_whitelist.txt file and to add the radar files to the server, if he want to CRC the custom files ,
- Play like that, it is not worse than buggy radar thing ;)
- Go play elsewhere ;) ;) - What is this RATS type?
-
The RATS type is a sub-genre on its own. One of the only type that doesn't define a goal, like hostages to free or a bomb to defuse, but a particular style of game. Players are set in a gigantic scenery, making them appearing as if they were of mice size. This type had its time of glory in the original Counter-Strike, and has only made a timid apparition in CSS.
- GunGame, what's that?
-
It is a mod that is installed on the server side only. It changes the base rules of CSS. Buying is impossible, but you can improve your equipment by scoring point (killing the other team's member). The more point you have, the better your weapons. At each turn, based on your score, you have access to increasingly more powerful CSS's weapons. This mod has a huge variety of parameters, such as the list of available weapons or the number of point to score to have access to the next weapon.
This mod can be used on nearly all of the CSS maps, be it official ones or custom ones. Some maps have been design specifically and won't be usable without this mod because there is no buy zone.
The lastest version can be downloaded here.
- What is "color correction" ?
-
This is a setting that you can find in the advanced graphical options for CSS and HL2DM for instance.
A mapper can modify some parameters of his map to alter the final color rendering.
Here is two examples of this possibility. On the left, the rendering without correction, on the right, the rendering as the mapper intended it.
It is strongly advised to enable it ^^
- Disconnect: Error verifying STEAM UserdID Ticket
-
If you to, you have this annoying error message on some servers, here is a simple workaround.
Note: you will need your Steam password!
With this little detail in mind:
- Close Steam
- Go to the root directory of Steam (c:\program files\Steam typically)
- Delete or rename the file ClientRegistry.blob
- Launch Steam (you will have to enter your Steam password).
